Raglands win awards at SD Fair 2022

Marilee won 3rd place in the Drawing/Pastel division of the Super Pet Portrait Contest for her rendition of “Meemos” our first family dog she adopted from the Avon Lady in Iowa, who was a basset and sheep dog mix. Jack won 1st place on “Balboa Reflections at Sunset” in the Acrylic water scape division in the Fine Art competition. He also won a 2nd place award in the mixed media division for his painting of “Chehalis” our feral cat. Natasha won People’s Choice Award on June 30th for “Folklorico in River Village” — which was commemorating the beautiful Traditional Mexican dancing that was performed in Fallbrook at the Avocado Festival. Natasha had a music student, Lucia, who performed in the Esperanza Ballet Folklorico Troop for 2 years, and her teacher, Soleme, is featured in this painting. Our housekeeper, Marisol, was also part of that colorful chapter as she danced in the Citlali Folklorico. Natasha placed the dancers in the heart of River Village, Bonsall, where she now plays piano at Peking Wok on Friday nights from 5-8 PM. Jack’s other works that were juried into the Fine Art were “Santa Margarita River at Sunset” and “El Gallo” (rooster), which was chosen for the garden exhibit, and an artist created a floral arrangement inspired by his painting. Natasha also exhibited “Natasha Composing with Havi Shanti” and “Wilt Road in Autumn".

Natasha Ragland won 4th Place in the “Pawsome” Dog Portrait Contest at the San Diego County Fair June 27, 2019.  It is now displayed in the Fine Art Exhibit for the rest of the Fair season.  This was a memorial painting to her dog, Horatio, who was murdered by an Akita running unattended through the neighborhood, when Marilee Ragland was taking a walk in July of 2018.  Horatio was a dear family pet for 11 years ever since he was dumped as a puppy on the Ragland’s property with 3 kittens.  This was a special opportunity to commemorate Horatio and the super bloom of poppies we experienced this year.  Natasha also won “People’s Choice Award” on June 20 for her “Hot Dog Band” painting which featured 3 other beloved pets. Natasha has always had a great Love for animals, and enjoys painting them.
